This collection contains resources in order to add socio-scientific issues into science instruction. Resource #1: This is a book chapter that describes a four-day lesson plan involving the SSI of reducing speed limits. Resource #2: Deforestation. This journal article includes links to resources and lesson plans to engage students with the SSI of deforestation. Resource #3: See description. Resource #4: Science in Socio- Scientific Issues. This journal article describes a several-day lesson involving the SSI of a "fat tax" using a timeline activity. This would fit well into a unit about nutrition. Resource #5: Social Justice in the Science Classroom. This journal article contains a list of SSI's that you can use in your classroom. Resource #6: See description. Solid Waste Takes Over

This is a link to the lesson called, Solid Waste Takes Over, found on Teach Engineering. This is a website created by the University of Colorado Boulder. Students explore the SSI of waste and waste management. They learn about the different types of waste disposal and the issues associated with waste disposal and landfills. They also engage in engineering practices by exploring the roles of engineers in waste management and by brainstorming ways to reduce the amount of waste going into landfills
