This is a collection of articles and lesson ideas for first and second grade teachers who are interested in teaching their students about what butterflies are and why they are important (includes topics, such as its life cycle, body parts, habitat, etc.). Two articles are provided on living and nonliving things if teachers decide to begin the unit with an introductory lesson on the characteristics of living things.

This is a website that provides pictures and information on butterflies that are native to Maryland. Teachers can show these authentic images of butterflies to their students and help them identify the different habitats, flight periods, and the different host plants for each of the species identified on the website.
