As science instruction shifts to align with the vision
of the Framework for K12 Science Instruction, administrators and educators
must recognize what high-quality,
three-dimensional teaching and learning look
like in classroom observations. This session will explore how sensemaking serves
as the foundation of three-dimensional science instruction and how to
identify meaningful evidence of student engagement with
disciplinary core ideas, science and engineering practices, and crosscutting
concepts. Participants will examine key "look-fors" in classroom observations,
discuss how these indicators connect to learning goals and targets,
and consider how to provide meaningful feedback that supports teachers
in refining their practice.
