Zoom Online Meeting
Help students see the connection between today's science lesson and tomorrow's career. Join us on Thursday, November 19, 2026, from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM ET to explore practical strategies for connecting three-dimensional science learning to Career and Technical Education (CTE) pathways and authentic workforce opportunities.
Students often wonder how the science they learn in class connects to life beyond school. This 90-minute webinar explores practical strategies for bridging core science instruction with Career and Technical Education (CTE) pathways and authentic career applications. Participants will examine how phenomena-driven, three-dimensional science learning naturally develops the knowledge and skills students need in fields such as engineering, health sciences, agriculture, technology, and environmental science.
Grounded in A Framework for K–12 Science Education, the session will explore the role of engineering design in K–12 science classrooms and the opportunities and challenges of intentionally connecting science learning to college and career readiness. Participants will investigate the connections between the Science and Engineering Practices (SEPs) and Career Readiness Competencies (CRCs) and experience how these skills are enacted through a sample lesson.
Through examples, discussion, and ready-to-use instructional strategies, participants will consider how to make career connections more authentic and meaningful without sacrificing the depth of science learning. The webinar will highlight how students can use scientific and engineering practices to solve problems, communicate ideas, analyze evidence, develop solutions, and make sense of phenomena—skills that extend well beyond the science classroom.
Learning Goals
Participants will be able to:
- Recognize connections between Science and Engineering Practices and Career Readiness Competencies.
- Identify strategies for connecting phenomena-driven science instruction to CTE pathways and authentic career contexts.
- Apply strategies for helping students recognize the relevance of scientific thinking and engineering practices to their future education and careers.
All individuals receive a certificate of participation and 100 NSTA activity points for attending the live seminar and completing the end-of-program survey. A certificate of participation is not awarded for watching the recorded version of the program.
