Class discussions are at the heart of OpenSciEd’s instructional model, but ensuring that all students feel empowered to participate can be a challenge.

Join us on Thursday, February 26, 2026, from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM ET, in this webinar that will focus on how to support participation across the various OpenSciEd discussion types, ensuring every student has the opportunity to contribute to building scientific understanding.

In this interactive session, participants will:

• Learn the different categories of OpenSciEd discussions (e.g., Launch, Building Ideas, Putting the Pieces Together) and their specific goals
• Discover practical strategies to support participation from all students, such as talk moves, norms, scaffolds, and grouping techniques
• Explore how to create a classroom culture that values a variety of ideas and supports all learners in sharing their thinking
• See examples from real classrooms and gain access to resources and routines you can use right away

Who should attend:

• OpenSciEd teachers (grades 6–8)
• Instructional coaches
• Anyone supporting implementation of phenomenon-driven science instruction

All individuals receive a certificate of participation and 100 NSTA activity points for attending the live seminar and completing the end-of-program survey. A certificate of participation is not awarded for watching the recorded version of the program.
