This is Option 2. OpenSciEd Middle School Unit 7.6 Curriculum Launch AND Facilitator Training Workshop

NSTA is providing a virtual OpenSciEd (OSE) Curriculum Launch Workshop in the context of Middle School Unit 7.6 Earth’s Resources & Human Impact (climate science) to immerse you in teaching and learning driven by students making sense of phenomena. Eight live web seminars are scheduled on April 1, 3, 8, 10, 15, 17, 29, and May 1, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM Eastern time.

Experience the innovative learning of OSE’s high-quality instructional materials first-hand from the students’ perspective (lesson immersions) and see how students’ sensemaking develops across the unit through careful analyses of classroom videos, real student work, and student and teacher interviews.

You will walk away from this experience with a deep understanding of the Middle School Unit 7.6 Earth’s Resources & Human Impact and be well-prepared to confidently facilitate learning in your classroom. In addition, you’ll become an expert in navigating all of the resources embedded in the OpenSciEd unit materials so you can maximize your impact on student engagement and learning.

In this Option, two additional seminars are scheduled for the Facilitator Training, on April 5 and May 3, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM Eastern time, for a total of ten live web seminars.

The Facilitator Training Workshop is for educators who plan to implement the Middle School Unit 7.6 Earth’s Resources & Human Impact (or other OpenSciEd Middle School units) in their classrooms and/or want to develop a professional learning facilitator “tool kit” to provide the Curriculum Launch workshop for middle school science teachers in their school or district.

Program dates and times:

The eight live web seminars are scheduled on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM Eastern time. Two additional live web seminars are scheduled on Saturdays, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM Eastern time. Specific program dates are below:

  • April 1, 3, 8, 10, 15, 17, 29, and May 1 (Tuesdays and Thursdays)
  • April 5 and May 3 (Saturdays)

During the program participants have access to:

  • Digital resources and all NSTA online community tools (My Library, My Profile, Community Forums)
  • All archive versions of the web seminars to watch on-demand.

Participants will receive a certificate from NSTA after each live web seminar for attending the live program AND for completing the post-program survey.

Note about Option 1 of the OpenSciEd Middle School Unit 7.6 Curriculum Launch Workshop:

You may instead register to attend only Option 1 of this program, the Curriculum Launch Workshop, which includes only the eight live web seminars on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM Eastern time.
