Member Web Seminar

How do you create a classroom where every student’s ideas, questions, and experiences are valued from the very first day? Join us on Thursday, August 20, 2026, from 7:00 PM t0 8:30 pm ET, for Starting Strong: Creating Classroom Norms that Foster Sensemaking from Day One and discover practical strategies for building a science learning community where students collaborate, share their thinking, and make sense of the world together.

Every student enters the classroom with valuable experiences, perspectives, and ideas that enrich science learning. The first days of school provide a powerful opportunity to establish a classroom culture where students leverage these assets to collaboratively make sense of the natural world. Thoughtfully developed classroom norms help create an environment where curiosity is valued, diverse thinking is celebrated, and every learner is empowered to contribute to scientific understanding.

In this interactive web seminar, you'll explore practical strategies for co-creating classroom norms that cultivate a community of scientists who ask meaningful questions, build on one another's ideas, use evidence to support their thinking, and engage in authentic scientific discourse. Together, we'll examine how intentional norms encourage collaboration, deepen sensemaking, and ensure every student's strengths are recognized as essential to the learning community.

All individuals receive a certificate of participation and 100 NSTA activity points for attending the live seminar and completing the end-of-program survey. A certificate of participation is not awarded for watching the recorded version of the program.
