Web Seminar

Join us on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, from 7:00 PM to 8:15 PM ET, to learn about NGSS implementation efforts over the past ten years.

In the last decade since the publication of A Framework for K-12 Science Education (National Research Council, 2012) and the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), 20 states and the District of Columbia have adopted the NGSS. Most other states have developed their own state standards based on the Framework document. The NGSS represents a new vision for K-12 science education and provides a clear statement of the competencies in science and engineering that all students should be able to demonstrate through their K-12 learning experience. Student performance expectations in the NGSS focus on making sense of phenomena and problems, compared to traditional approaches of memorization of facts.

Participants in this web seminar will gain an awareness of NGSS implementation efforts across states over the past decade by engaging in discussion about the identified successes and challenges of the standards. Next steps and resources to build capacity and drive coherence in the implementation process, not only for K-12 but on into higher education will also be shared. Panelists will place particular emphasis on NGSS appendices A-conceptual shifts, C-college and career, D-all standards, all students, and F-science and engineering practices.

All individuals receive a certificate of participation and 100 NSTA activity points for attending the live seminar and completing the end-of-program survey. A certificate of participation is not awarded for watching the recorded version of the program.
