Distance Learning

I think it is very important for teachers to demonstrate distance learning to make students feel as normal as possible to continue their learning. It is important for teachers to use interactive ways to get kids involved and focused even if they are at home. For college students distance learning can be helpful as they don't have to commute, and they can work at their own pace. It can be hard for some students who need a normal routine schedule and someone to help them more.

Hi Morganne,
I agree with you I think it is important for teachers to make distance learning feel as normal as possible for students to help them continue to learn. It is a different time for everyone, and it is important for educators to realize that all students are going through many changes and they all learn differently. I think during these times we just need to let students know we care about them and are here for them.

Hi Morganne,

Thank you for your post. It really got me thinking about the different types of learners we have all around us and at every stage in life. Being a preservice teacher right now, I believe I am getting to see many angles of what you were talking about. At college, I attend class every day and am so fortunate to still be able to do that. Some of my roomates have classes online though at this point. Then I have field experience in the classroom in person, and I get to see the students as they are transitioning back from time at home as well. Some of my fellow preservice teachers have placements online, so we are getting to see all types of learning this fall. That being said; it is super interesting to see the uniqueness of all the college and elementary students learning around me during these times. I have learned more this fall about education, students, and how the brain works then ever in my life. Thanks for sharing your thoughts Morganne.

Hi Annie!

I think you are spot on with understanding that students are going through many changes and they are all different types of learners! I think that understanding this as educators will allow us to grow and build relationships with our students. I have been teaching for nearly 5 years and this year is so very different than any previous years. But, with that being said, kids are resilient! And, if they feel our love and support, they can bounce back and grow in ways we never though possible!

Thank you for sharing your insight and best of luck with your college courses!

I think a good idea for distance learning is to take videos of yourself doing experiments and demonstrations. If the students can't do them themselves at least they can still see it be done live. It would be like watching a Youtube tutorial:)
