Hi! My name is Brianna Hudock. I am a junior at Monmouth University studying Early Childhood Education and Elementary Education, and teacher of Students with Disabilities. This semester I took a course called Methods of Teaching Science for elementary level students. During this course I learned a lot of helpful concepts to teach my future students, but one that interested me the most was Aquaponics in the classroom. By creating a lesson plan on Aquaponics in the classroom, it prepared me if I ever had to do this with my future science students. The central focus of the Aquaponics lesson is that students will be able to conduct and evaluate different experiments with aquaphonics and gardens, and reflect on the different variable outcomes. The stduents will be practicing their compare and contrast skills during this lesson, which will be very beneficial to them. There would be different supports available for students with varied learning needs, which would benefit the children so they can all be successful in their own ways. Having the students plant something (in this case basil), in the aquaponics tank, they will be able to get the opportunity to see if aquaponics sped its growth, by making observations every week. This is something very fun that I learned how to do, as well as teach my students. Aquaponics would be enjoyable and educational for all grade levels at the elementary level.
