Growth and Fixed Mindset

Hello!

My name is Abby Staebell and I am a pre-service teacher from Iowa. I have been researching growth and fixed mindsets within the classroom. How do we as educators help students move towards a growth mindset? What does growth mindset look like in an elementary classroom and a high school classroom? How does their homelife affect the way they view learning and their abilities?

Sincerly,

Abby Staebell, Wartburg College '20

Hi Abby,

I am a pre-service teacher at the University of Northern Iowa. I understand the struggle that teachers can have with students who have a fixed mindset. I have found, through observations of my mentor teachers, is that the best way to help students move towards a growth mindset is to show them they are capable of learning. By showing students that they are capable of learning they strive to know more and more, getting in as much information as they can. Just keep working with your students and do not give up on them, no matter what.

Best Wishes!
