Hi everyone! I am teaching second graders right now and below is the standard and sub standards that I am teaching: Standard 4: Science, Engineering and Technology Core Standard: Describe how technologies have been developed to meet human needs. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 2.4.1 Identify parts of the human body that can be used as tools—like hands for grasping and teeth for cutting and chewing. 2.4.2 Identify technologies developed by humans to meet human needs. Investigate the limitations of technologies and how they have improved quality of life. 2.4.3 Identify a need and design a simple tool to meet that need. Any ideas for a lesson that integrates math for second grade? Thanks!
Measuring perhaps? Is there a technology that would work well if it was a specific length but not if it's too short or too long? Or perhaps volume measurements for various sizes of cooking implements, food storage containers or? Or maybe a goldilocks weight type of lesson. Can you make a bed (out of these supplies) that will hold this much weight? What is 'just right'. That might be fun to explore!
