Dear STEM Educators! My name is Maia Magrakvelidze and I am an assistant professor at Science Department of Cabrini University. I wanted to reach out to you as a potential participant in our study for Misconceptions in Science and Math. In this joint study with Dr. Hossein Shahrtash, Department of Mathematics and Dr. Michele Oswald, Department of Teacher Education, we set out to uncover the misconceptions that stem from a lack of understanding of the underlying principles involved in the construction of mathematical and scientific concepts (mainly physics) in order to bring awareness to the issue of misconceptions as well as inform future programming to support teachers in identifying and dispelling misconceptions in the middle school and high school classrooms. We are inviting educators in STEM field to take our survey in Physics (and Math). The Physics survey is a collection of questions that is designed to investigate the better understanding of the relationship between teacher knowledge of physics and student learning. The findings of this study will have practical implications in professional development -emphasizing on increasing teacher’s subject-matter knowledge and knowledge of student’s misconceptions. The survey contains total of 20 physics questions, and in addition, we ask 5 general questions related to teaching experience, level etc. Additional information about your rights as a participant is present in the consent form once the participant accesses the survey here:

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at any time. I am available for contact at [email protected] Thank you very much for your time and consideration. Respectfully, Maia Magrakvelidze Assistant Professor of Physics, Science Department, Cabrini University, Live with Purpose Bio--- Dr. Maia Magrakvelidze ? Assistant Professor at Cabrini University teaching general and university physics courses. Prior to joining Cabrini, Magrakvelidze served as a tenure-track assistant professor at the University of Mary Washington, where she received the seventh annual Chi Beta Phi Outstanding Faculty Award. Magrakvelidze’s goals as a teacher are to focus on helping students increase their confidence, critical-thinking skills, and understanding of fundamental concepts of physics. She wants all her students to not only understand the concepts but also to have a real feeling for the concepts so that they gain the ability to use their knowledge in other classes and throughout their everyday lives.
