Hello all, I'm currently employed at a Pre-Kindergarten facility. I have noticed that science lessons have been placed on the back burner in the past and I desire to see that change. Does anyone have any suggestions on ways to get 5 year olds interested in science at their level? Thanks!
Hi! With my experience with the Pre-K level and science, is that anything hands-on is great! For example, learning about the earth and its components by having them explore a soil bin with fake plants, fake bugs, and rocks that all resemble what is found in nature enables the children to make better real world connections and deepens the meaning of the lesson. I have found that pairing children's books with lessons is difficult, where would be a good place to find fun science books for children?
I think there are many different ways to get students involved with science, especially at an early age. If you really think about it, you can incorporate science into any hands on activity. For instance, you can make a lesson plan using magnets. On those magnets you can add figures or objects to get the students interested. the magnets will connect and any movement will get the students excited. That is juts one idea, but maybe try to find something they are interested in, so you can start working off that. -Stephanie L.
