There are multiple elementary science experiments we could do for our class. A great and fun one I like to do it the egg drop experiment. This is when we build a cushion around an egg using toothpicks, tape, cotton balls etc and our mission is when the egg drops it better not crack! This is super fun and it’s also great when you’re working with a partner or group. It’s exciting for everyone and it’s very interactive.
I love this idea! I have seen it done in tv shows but have never seen it done in real life. I believe that this is an engaging way to get students to engage in a lesson. They can predict and observe and engineer their own way to not let the egg crack. I think I saw once that someone put an egg in a jar of peanut butter. I would love to do this with my students and see what they come up with.
I remember doing this activity when I was in high school and it was fun to do because it got our minds thinking and coming up with a plan as to how to make something that would work to protect the egg from breaking.
I've been thinking of doing this activity where i'm doing my student teaching but I am not sure how this would work with first graders. I think that it would be a fun activity for them to do because it would be exciting for them to build something that can help the egg to not break when it is dropped.
We recently did this experiment where I am doing my student teaching, I am with 4th grade. The kids loved it and were very excited to do this. We did this for Thanksgiving and decorated the egg to look like a turkey by glueing eyes, a construction paper beak, and construction paper feathers on the egg. Before designing, we also had students write the Turkeys a name and a backstory, which helped to incorporate ELA! This activity was very engaging and the students were really invested in making sure their egg wouldnt crack.
