Dear Teachers
Interested in providing feedback on a new Science and Decision Making curriculum? We are seeking interested and innovative teachers to provide feedback on a curriculum being developed by an interdisciplinary team at UC Berkeley for grades 9-12, focusing on some of the most powerful ideas and skills in scientific thinking.
This could include one or both of:
Online Focus Groups
Friday July 29, 2022 @ 10 - 11:30 PT; 1:00 - 2:30 ET TBD in Fall 2022
- Participate in online (via Zoom) focus groups with small groups of high school teachers to gather feedback about our overall curriculum and its relevance and connection to current high school science coursework.
- Duration: 1 - 3 hours (depending on activities and availability of teachers)
- Compensation: $30 - $100 depending on duration of focus group and any preparation.
AND / OR
Field test one or two unit(s) in your classroom - Fall 2022
- Preparation: Participate in a one-time brief training prior to piloting
- Teach one or two units we’re developing:
* A unit focused on how scientific advancement has and continues to improve access to clean water -- 11 activities (~ 2 - 3 weeks of instructional time) -- Connections to general science, chemistry, and environmental science * A unit focused on how communities can make better decisions about electricity generation -- 10 activities (~ 2 - 3 weeks of instructional time) -- Connections to physics, physical science, or environmental science
- Provide feedback on this curriculum with short surveys after each activity (10 - 20 min/survey) and after the unit (up to 30 min).
- Submit work of students who have agreed researchers can review it (up to one hour)
- Compensation: up to $300/unit (prorated depending on elements above completed)
