Hi Olivia, Finding time for science instruction within a busy school day is definitely a challenge. This makes it especially challenging to ensure students receive high-quality science instruction in line with “best practice”. However, I think it can be done if you are willing to be flexible about how you structure instruction. For example, you may have to break up the 5Es, allowing students to engage with the topic and begin exploring one period, continue exploring, and work on explaining the next, before extending and evaluating at another time. You could even integrate these components into your other content areas. For example, explaining could easily be worked on during literacy time as students work on independent writing and other similar standards. This may feel a little bit disconnected, and necessitates thoughtful planning around how you are reviewing what was done in previous periods each day, but it is no different than how you would teach a larger unit. Best of luck!
