Hello, I'm a soon to be new teacher and was wondering what are some activities, ideas, strategies to help maintain the students engaged while learning science?

It is so crucial to keep students engaged in science as it can be a tricky subject when it comes to engagement, interest, and focus. While I do not have any specific activites on my mind, I would emphasize the importance of hands-on activities for students. By utilizing these types of activities, students are able to use many skills. Another important factor when teaching science (or any subject) is that teachers should also try their best to stay engaged in the content and show interest. From personal experiences as a young student, I remember a few teachers not being engaged in the content, therefore, I lost my focus as well. The last thing I can think of is creating a positive learning environment for the students. Science may be difficult for some learners, so it is important the teacher works with them in a flexible manner. There are so many different approaches to teaching science, but it is crucial to keep the class engaged, utilizing skills, and learning with a positive mindset.

Hello,
I think the number one thing to keep the students engaged is to bring in real life objects or to have visual aids to show them the whole time. If there are more visual aid copies pass them around the room so each student can actually see and know what it looks like when learning about it. I would also suggest when talking about nature or life cycles make connections back to how it can relate to people and they will throw in ideas as well. I think a strategy would be to try to always make hands on as they will learn more that way and remember it.

I personally believe that students need hands on interactions so activites that have them work on their five senses would be a great choice.

Hello, keeping the attention of pre-school children is difficult so it is imperative to find ways to keep them engaged in the lesson. Using plenty of visual aids is sure to keep them engaged. I would also suggest to use costumes or role playing to allow the students to feel like they are real scientists to make the experience much more engaging.

Hello!
One thing that I have learned from my clinical experiences is to always offer choices. All students learn differently and are engaged differently. When the students are given choices, they are more likely to be engaged with what you want them to do. For example, if you are working on a lab that discusses the water cycle, some students can do an online game, others can do an activity within the classroom, and others can maybe do a worksheet. If you give the students choices, it will be a more positive engagement for the students.

I think it is important for studnets to get hands on expirence. They also need to be able to try to solve problems on their own in their own way. This will teach them problem solving skills they will be able to use for the rest of their life. Finally it needs to be fun! Nothing will make a student lose interest faster than being bored.

Hello! A great resource to use is a website called 'Brain Pop'! This website has various videos of a robot learning about different things. There are so many that help the students with lessons you might be teaching. Another resource I use is 'Flocabulary'! This is so awesome because there are so many different mini rap songs about the topic you want to teach to your students. The kids love these songs and even ask to listen to more of them. Finally, I like to look up youtube videos called 'Science with Dr. Boncos' it is this cute 'floating cloud' that goes through so many different topics you would like to talk with your students about.
