My last post asked how teachers are attempting to provide hands-on activities through distance learning. I was given some great tips and decided to look around myself. One article I found discussed how important it is to engage students while using as little materials as possible. Shawn Sutton on Edutopia brought up various scenarios to his students using basic household items. He placed celery in salt water and it shriveled up, bringing up another scenario about placing a goldfish in the ocean. Then he asked his students: Why can't a goldfish survive in salt water? Another example of a mini-lab was using a plate, a cup, and dish soap to illustrate properties of the cell membrane. The article was an interesting read overall to consider how hands-on learning has shifted to distance learning.
