Its sometimes difficult to keep our students on task and engaged around the holiday period. With Thanksgiving approaching I wanted to share some ideas for activities.
Here is a link to an NSTA collection I found https://my.nsta.org/collection/IE7sbLHsRSg_E and a recent journal article https://www.nsta.org/science-and-children/science-and-children-october-2019/colorful-creations
I would love to hear your ideas for Thanksgiving Science activities
Colorful Creations (Article)
I love this activity! This is great and gets students involved hands on in the activity. I think that it is very appropriate because students tend to get anxious and rowdy right before a break. This activity can pull them in and gives them the satisfaction of upcoming break/holiday infused with effective teaching and learning. An acitivty that comes to my mind that involves thanksgiving and science is testing if a cranberry will sink or float. Students thrive in debates and this activity connects the communciation, science, and thankgiving components. Here is a link to an explanation of the activity for further clarification: https://jenniferfindley.com/thanksgiving-science-activities-with-cranberries/
