Hello everyone. My name is Ruth Rodriguez and I currently student teaching 2nd graders. I am trying to create a 5E lesson plan about how things can be done to material such as cutting, folding, sanding, and melting to change its physical properties. Can you all please give me any ideas for the EXPLAIN/ELABORATE portion of my lesson? Thank you so much!
Observe the changing appearance on the outside w/o changing what's on the inside (its composition).
A relate-able example is kids changing clothes every day, but inside they're still the same.
Hi, Ruth. Not sure if this is where you want to go, but I have modeled the rock cycle with crayons before. You can erode (could model sanding) the craysons to make sedimentary rock and you melt the crayons to make igneous rock. I found this procedure here, but you could find others that may be more at the 2nd grade level.
