I am Hannah a junior Elementary Education major at Wartburg College. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on how to include art in the science classroom. We have been talking a lot about Gardner's Multiple Intelligences in my methods classes and one area that I do not excel in is the artistic realm.
As a teacher, would it be appropriate to reach out to the art teacher at my school and do parallel lessons?
Thank you.

Hi Hannah!
My name is Sydney Luu and I am a pre-service teacher at the University of Northern Iowa studying elementary education and educational technology. Some ways I see art integrated into science is by having them draw out their experiment during/after they've done it. I think that would let them seriously evaluate the experiment a little bit more and notice things they might not have before. It would be a great idea to reach out to the art teacher for assistance if you need it.
Hi Hannah,
My name is Brooke Craig and I am a preservice teacher at UNI. This semester I am taking a course called arts and intergration which is exactly what you are talking about. First, adding art in to the classroom experience can be implemented very easily. This past semester we did three lessons at a local elementary school about Fall Changes. During our expereiences we were to integrate arts within Science. One example of what we did was integrated Drama with a lesson about hibernation. Although this sounds silly, it was such a great lesson. The second graders loved it. We used the 5 E's lesson plan to do this. We started with an engaging cherades activity that was about animals that hibernated. Then we read a book, taught a little and then had the students complete madlibs and then act/read them out to there classmates. This lesson was great because it got students up and moving in front of their peers. Another activity we did was working with the life cycle of pumpkins and the students had an investigation flapbook. They were able to draw and observe different parts of a pumpkin. I will attach the two lesson plans my group and I created if you would like to take a look at them.
Also, as far as reaching out to the art teacher. I think that would be so beneficial! There is no greating learning opportunity than expereicne. I think it would benefit you as a teacher.
Hope this helps!
Brooke
