Greetings!

Our last Meet the Experts program of this semester is in two weeks. Join the UCAR Center for Science Education as we bring experts from the NCAR and UCAR directly to your classroom to learn about what they do in their work, the highlights and challenges, and how it impacts us and our world. This  is designed for middle and high school students, but anyone is welcome! The graphic for this next program is attached, so please share it with your networks. Learn more about the series and register on the Meet the Experts page.

  • Wednesday, 14 December 2022: Meet the Experts: Predicting Hurricanes in the Face of Climate Change
With our changing climate, we are already seeing an increase in the intensity and frequency of many severe weather events. Hurricanes, also known as tropical cyclones, are one type of weather that becomes supercharged by climate change and can lead to dramatic and deadly consequences. Predicting hurricanes is personal for this month’s expert, Dr. Rosimar Rios-Berrios, who grew up with hurricanes in Puerto Rico. Join us to explore how scientists are hard at work to better predict hurricanes and their impacts so we can work together to build more resilient communities adapted to our changing planet.

There are two session times: 11:00 am - 11:45 am MST and 1:00 pm - 1:45 pm MST. The virtual program is a casual presentation followed by Q&A on Zoom. Automatic closed captioning is available. Questions can be submitted in advance if you have students who cannot attend the session live and the recording will be available afterward. More details and registration for each session time can be found on the Meet the Experts page.

Any questions about these sessions can go to our School and Public Programs TeamIf you can't join this one, we hope to see you and your students in this program next semester!

Happy Holidays!
Emma Hagen
