The Large Synoptic Survey Telescope (LSST), currently under construction in Chile, is scheduled to begin science operations in 2022. During its ten-year survey, LSST will collect and deliver an unprecedented amount of data, opening the way for countless scientific discoveries. LSST is also the first ground-based telescope project to fully fund the development of its educational program from the project’s inception.

The Education and Public Outreach Team has developed an innovative program to engage students in the scientific discovery process using LSST data. Classroom investigations focus on these themes: Properties of Light, Properties of Stars, Cosmology, the Solar System, Galaxies and the Milky Way, and the Dynamic Sky.

We are inviting a select group of educators to review the plans and prototypes of the formal education program, which is designed for students from the honors middle school level through general introductory astronomy in college. Our focus group will be July 16-18, 2018 in Tucson, AZ. All travel expenses and a per diem will be covered.

You need not be an astronomy expert to apply. Our goal is to bring together instructors with a variety of teaching experiences. If you are interested in this opportunity, please go to this link to apply for the focus group:
