I teach reading, writing, and math. So, the students in my class focused on the 5E model and design thinking when using vocabulary. Students were able to engage, explore, explain, elaborate, and evaluate vocabulary words. Yes, I was absolutely able to incorporate the 5E model and design thinking into a reading lesson, as both frameworks encourage active engagement, critical thinking, and problem-solving. The essential components will provide students with the opportunity to learn reading comprehension. Students were motivated to explore and investigate the topic through engaging activities. Students were able to collect relevant data and information. I provided explanations to help students clarify and solidify their understanding of the vocabulary word. Students apply their new knowledge in various contexts, when reading passages. I believe students' learning progress can be assessed through reading. This activity allows students to understand a concept over time through a series of established steps, or phases.
