I am currently a student teacher and we are in person for school. I am in a 3rd grade classroom. I will start to take over science this upcoming week. We are going to talk about Life Cycles, Change in Living Things, and Adaptation in our unit. What are some good descrepant events that I can do with my students, with the precaution of being sociallly distanced. My students are not fond of science, so I'd like to make science engaging for them.

?Hello, The team here at FunScienceNetwork, based out of Temple University, has a few suggestions that may help answer your questions. We have created a series of short video demonstrations for young learners. Teachers can play these videos, and/or reproduce the simple demonstrations with their students. Our YouTube channel has several playlists, each tied to the NGSS, with demonstrations of important concepts students should be familiar with before they reach High School. If you like our work, please consider subscribing to our channel, then you will be notified when each new episode is premiered. Here are so examples of life cycle videos: https://youtu.be/u_JAqupuEI8 https://youtu.be/KPKM2uc2VNo https://youtu.be/G77izCfofKE https://youtu.be/AdlZKKhtAn0 https://youtu.be/tdWl1MIqfKA https://youtu.be/awYzZyX_X7g Thank you, Dr.

Hi Gloria,

Thank you for your question! Have you seen NSTA Daily Do's? https://www.nsta.org/resources/daily-do

Here is one I found that might help: https://www.nsta.org/lesson-plan/why-are-flowers-so-different

I wonder if anyone else has any thoughts?

Hey there!  I have been looking for a few other discrepant events for a 3rd grade class as well, and one that I found that I thought was really interesting is the Resurrection Plant (the Rose of Jericho, Selaginella lepidophylla).  I'm attaching a couple of the articles where I discovered it.  Hope this helps!  Have a fantastic week ahead!
