I am currently a pre-service teacher looking for ways to best engage and teach science virtually. The classroom I student teach in is in person, however I have to be on zoom. What are some 'tips and tricks' for science and science experiments when it comes to social distanced learning? (Students have to stay at their seats, so they can't share materials or work in groups).
Hi Danae,
I think that you could engage students in science by showing them videos, talking about discrepant events in science, and how science works in the world and relates to them personally. I remember as a student that I would become really engaged in a lesson when it was something that related to me and that I could relate to the world around me. I think that science is the perfect subject to use that for. When it comes to socially distanced learning, I believe that using videos to also relate to students and inspire them to create their own science projects is a great way to start. For example, showing students different science experiments that have been performed by other students (in videos via youtube) and then allowing them to create their own version at home and then presenting in the class would be a great way to allow for a variety of experiments in and out of the classroom.
