In today's limited resources classrooms, what is the reality check in which new teachers and teachers in the schools today have to face with supplies? I understand that all school districts will be different, but in general, going into teaching what is the reality to what is provide for our students in the way of science equipment and/or safety supplies?
Stacy questions 'In today's limited resources classrooms, what is the reality check in which new teachers and teachers in the schools today have to face with supplies? I understand that all school districts will be different, but in general, going into teaching what is the reality to what is provide for our students in the way of science equipment and/or safety supplies?' Well Stacy, I can only respond from my own experience. I have taught in many different schools and I have found the supplies I needed to teach science. If the supplies were not there, I talked to my administrator and as long as I could justify what I needed I was ususally able to get the supplies I needed. Teaching science can be vehicle to teach students literacy. if administrators understand that they may be more likely to support requests for supplies. NSTA also has many grants and awards you could apply for that can also provide funds for doing great science. NSTA Awards These are only my ideas. I am sure that there are others who have more thoughts on this. Please share. Kathy
You need goggles. School should supply these if they want you to engage in lab activities. Most other labs can be done with simple materials. I think each school has differing resources. That would definitely be a consideration and something to ask when you look for a position.
I agree with Dan that goggles are VERY IMPORTANT science supplies, in fact they are basic. Safety should always come first in your science classroom. There are not many investigations you should be doing without goggles. Kathy
Well the school that I teach at is far from lacking in supplies for science but I believe that more would defiantly benefit the students ad enrich their learning experience. I have about three sets of the science experiment kits which means 10 students per one kit. Science is a subject where doing the experiment can really give the child a real understanding of what is going on. I know this isn't my principal's fault but in an ideal world.......
