NGSS and ELA

I teach Literacy to 6th graders.  However, Science is my favorite subject and I want to incorporate as much of my favorite subject into my least favorite subject.  Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can implement NGSS into ELA and keep it interesting to the kids?

The connection is strong and incredibly beneficial for students in both categories, but the connection is on the conceptual side of science, not on the content or skill side. Unfortunately, the concept dimension of science is not popular with the hands-on inquiry folk that dominate science education, so it’s a lonely path for those of us who are into the conceptual approach. In a nutshell, ALL transferable concepts in science use a syntax of three elements parallel to noun, adjective , verb: entity, PROPERTY (the key), and process. English and science both converge at this level, and, it as a former 6th grad teacher, you can get ALL your kids flying very high. But it takes courage to dive into the cognitive and learning theory that marks on the clear path. Pat
