As a first time teacher I am worried on what actions to take when students misbehave. I would not want to scream at the student like the teachers i've had, but I also dont want them to walk all over me.

Hi! I know that all classrooms are different and something that works in one would flop in another. However, this has worked best for me. As a class, my students work toward center time on Friday afternoons. At the beginning of the week I write 'FUN FRIDAY' on the board. If students disrupt class, I immediantly erase a letter without having to stop the lesson. They are able to gain back any letter they lost by having appropriate behavior. Since we have done this in my classroom, my students have never lost their fun Friday and they have learned to work together as a class.
