Hi,
I am struggling with how to implmement science within my 2nd grade placement. I feel like them engaging with real world science phenomenons would be good for them but due to the curriculum push of focusing on literacy and phonics I feel discourage in not incorporating a scientic concept. Any suggestions on how I could do this?

Hi Brooklyn, I think finding ways to integrate science into instruction would be beneficial. One way I have done this in the past was around holidays. During Halloween, my students found an interest in spiders. We spent time reading passages about spiders and working on decoding strategies around spiders.

Hi Brooklyn,
I am in a Kindergarten classroom and it is extremely hard for myself to incorporate science in the classroom. The bulk of instruction is focused on Phonics and number concepts. If we had more time each day, I would definitely incorporate science in my classroom daily. We do most of our science instruction around holidays that allot for extra time and students are very eager to learn about science phenomenons.

Hi Brooklyn, I am struggling to incorporate science as well. In kindergarten, we have no time for science. I have been trying to incorporate it when I write a lesson into our reading or writing times so that way my students are getting the allotted time for their required academics but I also can show my students some science lessons as well.

Hi Brooklyn,
I think this is a struggle we all feel. As a 3rd grade teacher one way I am able to get more science content is during my day without taking away from literacy is by using science texts to write my constructed respondes. We will often read a text and then write about it the way we would any other text except we get some science content in there through the passage. You know what is best for your students, dont let time get in the way of your students' learning! We must find the time somewhere.
Best, Eriqa.
