I'm looking for a graphic/chart that shows the engineering design process for middle schoolers.
There's one here:https://www.nasa.gov/pdf/630754main_NASAsBESTActivityGuide6-8.pdf Here's another:http://www.eie.org/overview/engineering-design-process Regards, Michael.......................
ASK: What is the problem? How have others approached it? What are your constraints?IMAGINE: What are some solutions? Brainstorm ideas. Choose the best one.PLAN: Draw a diagram. Make lists of materials you will need.CREATE: Follow your plan and create something. Test it out!IMPROVE: What works? What doesn't? What could work better? Modify your design to make it better. Test it out!
I created a bracelet with the 5 steps outlined. I recently taught a STEM camp at a college and we emphasized the importance of doing and understanding the steps. I also match things with an acronym and I did the same for the engineering design process. Ask Imagine Plan Create Imagine I came up with the phrase, "Ain't it pretty, cousin Irene?" I know this seems silly but without a doubt (because of pre/post test data), my students could properly outline the steps of the EDP and could explain the reasoning behind each step.
