Hello!

My name is Kaylee Kueker and I am a preservice teacher from Wartburg College. In my science methods class, we talk a lot about the importance of STEAM learning. STEAM learning allows students to apply skills to the real world and see the relevance of their learning. I think this is amazing, however, we also read an article that brings up a few concerns about STEAM education. One of these concerns that students will not understand the importance of each individual subject within STEAM if we always teach them together. I was wondering how teachers stop this from happening in their classrooms while still using STEAM education to get all of its benefits for their students. In addition, is this loss of subject identity something that you think we should be worried about? So many subjects are always integrated no matter what, so how important do you believe it is to have each subject be separate?
