Behavior issues

One major question that I have is how do I control misbehavior in the classroom. Sometimes, when I try to address the bad conduct to the child, they do not take me seriosly. He seems to listen for the first few seconds but then brushes it off and continues to either say bad words, hit other students, get out of line, etc. I have already contacted the parents, but that does not seem to work either. I am not really sure on what other options I can do to help the student.

Has he been evaluated for special needs/education yet?  Is administration aware of his behavioral issues?  Are there any repercussions for his behavior?  Do you think he would respond to a reward system for good behavior?  Maybe you could assign him a special job to do in the classroom everyday so he has a responsibility and perhaps a sense of importance/purpose....
