Misconceptions about seasons

Hi there! I am currently a graduate student, hoping to teach high school Earth Science next year!

I have been thinking about common science misconceptions, specifically the tendancy for people to think that seasons happen due to the proximity of the Earth to the sun, not the axis tilt. I know how important it is to access preconceptions and then address the misconceptions but I am wondering some effective ways of doing this. Is there a lesson about sun-Earth-moon relationships that has been particularly helpful?

Thank you!

Hi Katherine,

See the article 'Reasons for the Seasons' below. A good place to start.

Take care,

Flavio.
