I’m trying to create a lesson plan to engage students in a STEAM activity on chemical reaction. So far I’ve had students create carbon dioxide balloons with vinegar and baking soda. I want the students to explore the topic of chemical reaction a further more with a STEM activity. Any suggestions?
Hey Raquel,
I love the idea with the vinegar and baking soda. Other ideas could be using yeast and peroxide so students can see how chemical reactions can produce heat! Here is a very cute and informative video about chemical changes in the kitchen that the students may relate to (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=37pir0ej_SE)
I hope this was helpful!
I run a science outreach program for 5th-grade that focuses on chemical and physical changes. The favorite experiment by far is the Foam Gnome! http://looseinthelabscience.com/foam-gnomes-materials/
