Hello, I'm currently a student in the UTRGV education program. With some schools still having classes online, teachers are having to resort to teaching elementary aged students through a computer screen. What are some good strategies for teaching elementary students science from home? How can you keep them engaged when you aren't able to physically go over lessons with them?
Hello Natalie, I think the best way to help students get engaged in learning science would be by having them perform a small hands on activity with materials they could find at home. For example, when my niece was doing virtual learning her teacher had them learn the colors of the rainbow using skittles. They would place the skittles on a plate and then would add water to them individually to watch the color smear through. I believe by also having them create hands on examples of a lesson could be a great tool for them to go back and look at incase they find themselves having issues with future problems.
