I am working towards aligning my high school biology class to a proficiency based course based on the NGSS. We are working through the Heredity: Inheritance and Variation unit yet I am having difficulty coming up with a way for my students to achieve the 2nd standard "Make and defend a claim based on evidence that inheritable genetic variation may result from new genetic combinations, viable errors of replication, and mutations caused by the environment." Does anyone have any lessons, links, labs, or activities they can share that addresses this topic? Specifically I am struggling with the area of having students gather evidence to make this claim. I'm not sure what kind of lab or activity I could have the do that would lead them to make their own argument. Thanks Matt Stewart.
