Hands-On Learning

Hello! My name is Cecelia and I am currently studying to be an elementary school educator. In some of my education classes, we have discussed the use of hands-on learning, which is something that I am really looking forward to implementing in my future classroom. However, I have learned that some hands-on learning assignments are not always 'meaningful', although they are engaging students. How do you find the right balance between hands- on learning and making sure the learning is also connecting to the standard being focused on? I want to make sure my students are able to receive the fun experience of having a hands-on science classroom while also making sure they are developing a proper understanding of the concepts and topics we are discussing.
