In an elementary classroom it seems to be hard to fit in good science lessons with other subjects being given more time and focus. What are some of the creative ways that you have found to fit more sound science into your day?

Hello Sarah, My name is Dr. George Mehler, and I am a professor of science methods at Temple University. I have been developing a YouTube channel called FunScienceDemos which has hundreds of free and fun science demonstrations. They are short enough that you can easily fit them into your lessons even when you are pressed for time. There are a wide range of topics which cover every idea that young learners should know before high school and they adhere to the common core standards. We regularly release new videos and in the coming year we will be adding complimentary readings, poems, math problems, and worksheets for teachers to incorporate into the classroom. Check out and subscribe FunScienceDemos, I think you will find it useful. Best, Dr. George Mehler Ed.D., Temple University

Hi Sarah, I agree with your thoughts that it can be difficult to include science when the time one have is limited even with careful planning, it is difficult to manage. I am glad that you posted the question and the replies I have been reading is very helpful too.

Hi I think using books is a great way to branch out from reading into science. For example, you can use books like "The very hungry caterpillar" by Eric Carle to teach sequential order as well as the life cycle of a butterfly.  Another book if "The loarx" by Dr. Seuss this book has interesting vocabulary as well as a lesson for environmental science. It can be related to deforestation, pollution, and recycling. This book is will make a great lesson around Earth day. Books are a great way opening seaway to many lessons.
