Thank you for sharing this activity. I am currently teaching an Earth Science workshop and it will be a great resource! Also the link at the end of the article led to a excellent resource for Earth Science teachers!
Another idea is to use a candy bar like a Snickers or Milky Way, cut it in half across and
1) To demonstrate divergent boundaries, have students gently pull on the
edges of the candy bar. They will notice that the "plates" move apart
to reveal the caramel/nuts or “mantle”.
4) To demonstrate a transform boundary, have the children push the
plates back together, then slide one half of the candy bar forward and
the other backwards.
5) To demonstrate a convergent boundary, have them push on both ends of the candy bar to squeeze it together.
Learn and eat at the same time!!
