I am a student at Portland State University in the Masters of Science in Teaching program in the Center for Science Education.  The focus of my studies and thesis is science education standards for early childhood education.  With the adoption of the NGSS, some states, including Oregon, are looking at implementing standards for the pre-school/Pre-K programs.    Would you be able to direct me to any information regarding attempts at national science standards for early childhood education?   I have read NSTA’s and NAEYC’s position on promoting a national standard.  However, I was told there might have been standards in the works before NGSS.   Any help you can give me would be much appreciated.
