The Stories Plants Tell: The Science of Phenology is a fun, 3-minute video introducing what plant phenology is, how it's tied to seasonal change, and how you can make a difference by contributing simple observations to a national citizen science phenology program, Project BudBurst. Please share the video with your students! http://bit.ly/pheno-video -Liz Goehring National Ecological Observatory Network Science Educator Former Middle School Life Science Teacher
What a great resource! I will definitely be showing this my class because it is such an important issue.
Hi! I also think going to the project bud burst web site is a great way to learn about changes in the seasons and plants. http://budburst.org/ I just attended a session at #NSTA15 and plan to have my students become citizen scientists.
There are some wonderful phenology and climate change video stories from "Climate Wisconsin - Stories from a State of Change" at http://climatewisconsin.org/ Phwnology - An interview with Nina Leopold Bradley Maple Sugaring Forestry (Menominee Nation Forest) Farming There are also data sets on winter ice cover and a model predicting temperature changes in the future in WI. These are short video stories that are compelling and generate engaging class discussions. I've used this website with both high school and middle school students as we explored climate change.. Enjoy! Dorothy
The G'WOW - Changing Climate, Changing Culture website is also a wonderful way to explore climate change and the impacts on traditional Ojibwe lifeways in Wisconsin, such as wild rice harvesting. http://www.g-wow.org/en-us/default.aspx
