Digital literacy is all about using technology to find, use, and share all kinds of information. All students need to be competent users of technology. Digital literacy means as a student you can search, navigate, think critically and analyze, as well as create and communicate. And doing all of this using a variety of media. And not just media today, but things that are always changing.
Digital Literacy in the Pk-12 classroom is evolving every day. They use smart boards, audio books, sites such as “Iready” and “coolmath” where they can continue learning but at the same time enjoy themselves, with fun games and exercises.
As a teacher knowing when and how to use technology is very important. Since our students crave technology, being born into a technological era; it would be to their advantage to use technology in your lesson plans. Although technology would be a great tool it is important to balance out when you use technology and when you don’t. Sometimes students are overloaded with technology, so using it too frequently could be harmful. But don’t just stick to using your blackboard or white board because this could be harmful and unproductive as well. It is your responsibility to know when and how to use technology, as well as teaching the students how to use it as well, in a proper manner.
