  • Wednesday, 22 February 2023: Meet the Experts: What's So Super About Supercomputers?
  • One computer may not seem super, but what if you had 34,000 computers working together all at once?! Supercomputers at the NCAR-Wyoming Supercomputing Center rely on high-speed computer networks to solve big problems like predicting the weather or modeling the climate. With the help of supercomputers, scientists can run experiments virtually and conduct an extraordinary number of calculations per second in order to predict hurricanes, wildfire paths, solar storms or even when it might start raining in your own backyard. How exactly do we make these computers so super? What else could we use supercomputers for? Ask these questions and more of the NCAR systems engineers in this Meet the Experts and Scientists in Action collaboration behind the scenes at the NCAR-Wyoming Supercomputing Center.

There are two session times: 11:00 am - 11:45 am MST and 1:00 pm - 1:45 pm MST. The virtual program is a casual presentation followed by Q&A on Zoom. Automatic closed captioning is available. Questions can be submitted in advance and the recording will be available afterward. More details and registration for each session time can be found on the Meet the Experts page.

Any questions about these sessions can go to our School and Public Programs TeamIf you can't join this one, we hope to see you and your students later in the school year!
