Hello Elementary Science Educators!

We are a team of science education researchers at Harvard University preparing a research project about the use of ChatGPT to create multiple choice questions that incorporate students’ misconceptions and address the NGSS Science Frameworks. We are interested in the extent to which science educators already use ChaptGPT or other Artificial Intelligence (AI) platforms in their classrooms and whether they might want to use it in the future.

Let us know by answering a few brief questions here. The results of this survey will inform us about the needs and interests of educators for this research study. We will share results of a future project upon funding and completion of the project. Thank you!

We greatly appreciate your time and input!
Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have.

Sincerely,

Hello Cynthia, My name is Michael Holderness and I am a preservice teacher attending Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa. I believe this is a great research topic that you all have chosen and I believe this will help build the bridge between educators and technology!

A question that I have for you all is, What ways are you using ChatGPT to get such specific answers without plagiarizing someone else's work?

Thank you for your time and Good Luck!

Hi Michael, thank you for your interest in our work and I am thrilled that you are pursuing your teaching degree! We are not currently utilizing ChatGPT in any of our work, we are simply gathering information in order to put together a proposal for a potential project. We have done an extensive lit review on many aspects, including pros/cons and pitfalls, of using ChatGPT/AI including plagiarizing others' work and security issues. It will be interesting to see the trajectory AI in learning ultimately takes.

Best of luck to you!

Cynthia Crockett
