I am looking for a first day of school lab or activity to hook high school biology students. Any ideas?

These ideas are great anytime of the year. Every day I have new students coming to my classes and these are excellent ways to get them caught up!

I loved the activity "Save Sam". This activity is very creative activity. It also has the students working together to get to know each other, so thats why I think it is a great first day "hook" activity for a class. I will for sure keep this activity in mind when I get my own classroom.

What a great group of ideas. There are certainly a lot of creative teachers in the Learning Center!! I loved the "Sam" activity.

Wow! This is such an awesome idea for students. I love how they are working in groups and it seems like this would be engaging for students. I am always looking for ways to engage students and this could also be used as an engage or warm up to get students minds working. I am not in high school but I am a student teacher in 5th grade. This would be awesome to share with them as a fun activity. Does anyone know if it could be used as a mini lesson for something? Any ideas on how to make it 5th grade appropriate or not so challenging?
