I was approached today about becoming the second teacher in our school to get certified to teach STEM and while I already incorporate STEM type things in my classroom, can anyone give me some good pointers (websites, information, etc) on building a STEM-focused class for middle schoolers? I know I will learn a lot during my trainings, but I really love searching for awesome ideas for the classroom. I'm really excited about this opportunity!! I'm going to get to collaborate with the 7th grade STEM teacher and my math teammate. Thank you in advance for any help!

Dear Jessica, Congrats on your new assignment! Are you attending the STEM virtual conference this Saturday, April 25? There will be 13 different sessions led by experts in STEM from around the country (some our own NSTA Press Authors), sharing what they are doing in the classroom. In addition, dozens of participants to network with and share ideas. All registered participants get access to all the sessions (all sessions will be recorded) to watch on-demand after the conference. For more information and to register, visit: http://www.nsta.org/vc Good luck! Flavio.

STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math education. It is a great way to incorporate deep, critical thinkers. Here is a website that states the basics of STEM: http://www.cslnet.org/our-agenda/what-is-stem/. Furthermore, I have found Pinterest to be a great resource on discovering new lessons or ways to incorporate STEM in the classroom. There is a company called "Get Caught Engineering" that has excellent resources: http://www.getcaughtengineering.com/lesson-ideas/. I myself and new to discovering STEM, but these are just a few things I have been mulling over the past few weeks!

Thank you for those resources, it sounds like many of us are interested, but need resources. I will check them out.
