As a new teacher, I am struggling to find ways to incorporate the new standards in to my classroom instruction that will actually engage my students. PLEASE HELP.

Hi Jennifer, I think it is a great idea to always start the lesson with a real-life phenomena that relates to the students lives. This peaks their interests for the entire unit. I am not sure what grade you are, but for example, in kindergarten you could have kids do a planting investigation or watch a few videos on plant and animal growth. Good luck.

Hi, Jennifer! Great question! I think the easiest way to get started in NGSS is to incorporate argumentation into your classroom, specifically after labs or activities. It is a great way to get your students involved to a greater depth and to have them truly develop their critical thinking skills! Here are a couple of sources that I encourage you to look at that may help you get going with Argumentation: http://www.bozemanscience.com/next-generation-science-standards/ http://www.classroomscience.org/supporting-argumentation-through-student-talk Best of luck! Most sincerely, Ian
