First, I would look at the state standards for that grade and make sure I aligned the lesson with those standards. Then, I would research that very topic and see what is out there. You could observe some animal or insect life cycles in the classroom, meal worms, butterflies, tadpoles, ets. Create a Venn Diagram to see how those life cycles overlap with plants. Make sure to get fast growing plants like beans.

After the research, I would have students create a way to convey what they learned to other students and present that information. At the very least, they might come up with more probing questions that spark more intrigue.
